ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival day

However, upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Our team will warmly welcome you and transport you to the serene Kaliwa Lodge. Nestled in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, this charming retreat offers breathtaking views and a tranquil setting to prepare for your climb. Here, you’ll meet your fellow trekkers and lead guide, who will provide a comprehensive briefing on the journey ahead. Take advantage of this time to relax by the pool, enjoy the lodge’s excellent cuisine, and soak in the stunning surroundings for one final night of comfort before your adventure begins!

Day 2: The trek starts

Trek to Machame Camp

After a hearty early breakfast, you’ll journey to Kilimanjaro National Park to officially begin your adventure! Upon arrival at Machame Gate (1,640 m), your details will be recorded in the park’s register, marking the start of your ascent. The day’s trek leads you through the lush and vibrant rainforest, a mesmerising environment teeming with life. Watch for playful monkeys, graceful duikers, and an array of colourful birds as you immerse yourself in nature. After five to seven hours of hiking, you’ll reach Machame Camp (3,020 m), your first base on the mountain.

Day 3: Ascend into the heath zone

Trek to Shira Cave Camp

Following an energizing breakfast, you’ll leave the lush rainforest behind and ascend into Kilimanjaro’s striking moorland, known as the heath zone. This day’s trail takes you across sparkling streams and expansive plateaus, offering a dramatic change in scenery. The journey lasts approximately five to six hours, and you’ll marvel at the diverse vegetation and panoramic views. Upon reaching Shira Cave Camp (3,810 m), you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking vistas of the Western Breach and its shimmering glaciers. This is a perfect spot to relax and acclimatize while soaking in the mountain’s majestic beauty.

Day 4: Climb to Lava Tower

Hike to Lava Tower and Barranco Camp

Today’s journey embraces the “hike high, sleep low” strategy, which is vital for successful acclimatisation. The route ascends to Lava Tower (4,630 m), a dramatic volcanic rock formation where you’ll pause for lunch and enjoy the magnificent views. Afterwards, the trail descends to Barranco Camp (3,967 m), nestled at the foot of the towering Barranco Wall. The day’s trek spans six to eight hours, with changing landscapes that reveal Kilimanjaro’s rugged beauty. The challenging but rewarding hike helps prepare your body for the altitude while offering a mix of adventure and awe-inspiring scenery.

Day 5: Tackle Barranco Wall

Conquering Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp

The day begins with an early breakfast before tackling the iconic Barranco Wall. Though it may seem daunting at first glance, this thrilling ascent is manageable and enjoyable, with many trekkers finding camaraderie and encouragement along the way. Known as the “Kissing Rock” section, this part of the climb fosters a sense of adventure and teamwork. Once over the wall, the trail meanders through a series of ascents and descents, offering incredible views of the surrounding landscape. After four to five hours of trekking, you’ll reach Karanga Camp (3,995 m), ready to rest and prepare for the journey ahead.

Day 6: Walk through alpine desert

Ascent to Barafu Camp

The adventure intensifies as you ascend to Barafu Camp (4,673 m), the final stop before your summit push. This three-hour trek offers fantastic mountain views, with the landscape becoming increasingly rugged and dramatic. As you arrive at Barafu, excitement builds, knowing you’re close to the summit. After a hearty meal, you’ll head to bed early to rest for the big night ahead. Around midnight, your crew will wake you with tea and biscuits, preparing you for the long and exhilarating journey to Uhuru Peak. The dream of reaching Africa’s highest point begins to feel within reach tonight!

Day 7: Summit time!

Summit Day – Uhuru Peak and Descent to Mweka Camp

The moment has arrived! Starting at midnight, you embark on the final ascent with determination and focus. The climb is challenging, but you edge closer to your dream step by step. By 6 or 7 am, you’ll reach Stella Point (5,739 m) on the crater rim, just in time to witness a breathtaking sunrise over Africa. It’s another hour from here to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the continent’s highest point. Standing at the summit is an unforgettable triumph! After celebrating, you’ll begin the descent, trekking six to eight hours to Mweka Camp (3,068 m) for well-deserved rest.

Day 8: Descend to Mweka Gate

Descent to Mweka Gate and Return to Kaliwa Lodge

Your Kilimanjaro adventure concludes with a final three-hour trek to Mweka Gate (1,640 m). As you descend through the lush rainforest, the fresh, oxygen-rich air feels invigorating, starkly contrasting to the thin air at higher altitudes. Your achievement is celebrated at the gate, and you’ll receive your well-earned summit certificate. Your driver will be waiting to take you back to Kaliwa Lodge, where the comforts of hot showers, cosy beds, and perhaps a celebratory beer await. Relax, reminisce about your incredible journey, and relish the satisfaction of conquering Mount Kilimanjaro!
